While participants had no difficulty triggering the emergency call, some suggestions were made to further improve the service. Here is a list of the most pertinent comments.

Visibility of the emergency call button

-     The shape and colour of the button could be improved to make it more visible and obvious. As it is cluttered with other buttons within the panel, it may be difficult to press the right button in an emergency situation.

Ring tone and Call progress indicator

-     The service used during the trial did not have an indicator for the call establishment and progress. Participants suggested that an audible indication of the call establishment and progress would be useful – perhaps through the use of a ring tone. This would help reassure vehicle occupants that something was happening as a result of pressing the button.

Camera in Use indicator

-     A video camera was installed on the dashboard to allow emergency services to connect remotely in order to assess the situation when there was no response from the occupants following the triggering of an emergency call. Participants expressed the need to have an indicator on the camera when it was in use. Suggestions included the use of a remote shutter or lens cover.
