Business Models for SafeTRIP Platform
What is SafeTRIP?The SafeTRIP project aims to develop and demonstrate the benefits of an open platform for supplying travel related services to vehicles. The platform will be demonstrated through a number of complete end-to-end ready-to-deploy services. The aim is improving road safety, mobility and environment protection for passenger vehicles. The proposed services are primarily targeted to address the needs of EU citizens travelling by road - i.e. drivers and passengers of cars and coaches. The SafeTRIP platform is an open platform using the S-band [S-Band MSS] satellite technology as the foundation of its communication infrastructure, exploiting the potential of this new resource to provide a low cost channel for broadcasting data to millions of vehicles and managing short messages transmitted from those vehicles. The communication infrastructure also provides bidirectional channel supporting services based on voice and VPN access. In isolated regions with little or no infrastructure the satellite telecommunication with S-band represents a unique solution for providing communication with vehicles. In brief, though the SafeTRIP platform, a vehicle equipped with the SafeTRIP system, would be able to communicate everywhere in Europe without taking care about the available communication channels. |
