Description of MethodologyThe needs of partner-users (SafeTRIP project partners who are ITS stakeholders) and users outside the consortium were captured using different tools. The needs of the partners have been established through discussions, observations, presentations and meetings. These activities are described in the Annex 1 of deliverable D2.1.1. The site visits undertaken by UCL usability team included - guided visits to various departments within the organizations - presentation and discussion of the operational problems and needs with users - semi-structured interviews conducted with emergency technicians, operators, operation managers, technologists, drivers, project managers and the management - observation session where the users were observed while performing their job Private vehicle drivers including end-users of navigation systems and telematics systems were recruited through advertising by the partners and interviewed using semi-structured interview technique. 25 interviews were undertaken. The needs of organizations outside the consortium were equally captured. While initially, the contact list of partners was exploited, further contacts were made during the first SafeTRIP workshop.
During the workshop, five key ITS topics and the SafeTRIP platform were discussed but in addition, further discussion took place about the needs of the transport and ITS stakeholders who attended the workshop. In particular, the workshop benefited from the presence of transport experts from NEARCTIS network of excellence.

All discussions were recorded and transcribed for in-depth analysis in order to define the identified needs of each type of user within the different organizations. Subsequently a mini-workshop was conducted where the identified needs were discussed with representatives of the organizations.
After a brief presentation of the topics by expert, a brain storming session followed during which participants discussed key issues in their domain. The discussions were captured, summarized and presented back during the concluding session of the workshop. The outcomes of the workshop are equally available from the project website.
The needs described in the tutorial are a synthesis of the requirement capture exercise with organizations and individuals within and outside the SafeTRIP consortium, as well as the outcomes of the workshop.
